Yolanda Lum, the longtime proprietor of Lum Yen Restaurant, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2010 at the age of 70. Yolanda was born on October 26, 1940 in Macao to Hong Nai Young and Shun Ping Hong. She moved to New York City in 1959 where she met her future husband John. The two married in 1963.
In 1968, the couple opened their first restaurant, Lotus Heart, in Mamaroneck. Four years later, Yolanda and John moved around the corner and opened Lum Yen which they have operated for the past 37 years. In the last years of her life, Yolanda enjoyed spending time with her husband of 46 years at their home in Kissimmee, Florida.
Yolanda deeply loved her family. In addition to her loving husband, she is survived by her children, Eugene (Sharon) of Harrison and Lonnie Lum-Curran (Tom) of Katonah. She is also survived by her four grandchildren – Emily, Tara, Brandon and Kyle. Yolanda was preceded in death by her daughter, Joanna, as well as her parents. She will be deeply missed by her family and the friends whose lives she touched.
Visitation will be at the COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME,767 E. Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck, NY from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, April 8th and Friday, April 9th, where services will be held 9:30AM on Saturday, April 10th. Burial will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, NY on Saturday, April 10th.
