Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Robert V. Henry

Robert V. Henry, a long-time Larchmont resident, died June 20th in Tampa Fla. He was 91.

Mr. Henry retired as vice chairman of the John J. Reynolds Company – a commercial real estate concern in Manhattan where he had worked for decades. He married Mary Pegnam on Jan. 10, 1948 in Whitman, Mass. Mary died in 1998.

Bob Henry was born in Salem, Mass., and graduated from St. John’s Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass. He graduated in 1942 from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. Bob was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving as an officer on ships in the North Atlantic that twice captured German U-Boats. He was a long-time communicant at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont, N.Y., where he lived for more than 25 years. He later lived in Greenwich, Conn., and recently moved to Tampa, Fla.

He was a member for more than 50 years of the Larchmont Yacht Club. An avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, he enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

He is survived by his children, Father Robert Henry of Scarsdale; Mary McCann of Darien, Conn.; Marian Henry of Poughkeepsie; Jane Reynolds of Johnstown, N.Y.; Frances Riley of Larchmont; Michael Henry of Tampa; and eight grandchildren. A son, Thomas Henry, died in 1976. His sister, Barbara Henry, of Salem, Mass., died in 2008.

Family will receive friends at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY on Tuesday, June 22  from 4PM to 8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Augustine’s Church, Larchmont, Wednesday, at 11:00 A.M. Internment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Rockland, Mass., on Thursday.

  • I am so sorry to learn of your Dad’s passing….we used to be next door neighbors in Larchmont – (Monroe Ave) just recently moved back from California to Long Island…so many memories came back after reading this! I hope you are all well and my deepest sympathy in your loss…
