Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Mary Elizabeth McEvoy

May 31, 1936 November 15, 2010 Mary Elizabeth McEvoy, long time resident of Mamaroneck, passed away November 15, 2010, in Stuart, FL, with her family members at her side.

Mary is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas McEvoy; brother Leslie Brenner of Huntington Station, NY; children Colleen Hagan (Kevin) of Larchmont; Thomas McEvoy (Marie) of Raleigh, NC; Michael McEvoy (Kathy) of Rye Brook; grandchildren Sean and Scott Hagan of Larchmont; Matthew and Emily McEvoy of Raleigh, NC; Meghan McEvoy of Rye Brook. Mary was born May 31, 1936 in New York City to Leslie and Helen Brenner.

Raised in Elmhurst, Queens, she was Senior Class President and Valedictorian at Dominican Commercial HS. A voracious reader, Mary’s passion for learning lasted a lifetime. She attended Fordham University while also working for RKO Radio Pictures as an Executive Secretary. She married her beloved Tom on August 31, 1957. Family meant everything to Mary and she was very proud to see all her children graduate from college, marry, and raise children of their own.

A long time parishioner at Sts. John & Paul Church in Larchmont, Mary worked as a secretary in the rectory and also taught public speaking in the school. She and her family were long time members at the Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck where they still have many friends and happy memories of summers spent there. Mary moved to Florida in 1992 but returned to NY frequently. On drives along the east coast she and Tom enjoyed visiting historical places like Colonial Williamsburg, Charleston, and Savannah. One of Mary’s fondest memories was of her and Tom’s 50th anniversary party, celebrated in Florida with all her children and grandchildren, and other family and friends.

A funeral service is planned at Sts. John & Paul in Larchmont on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11AM. The family would like to thank Treasure Coast Hospice for their wonderful support and care. In lieu of flowers donations can me made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian St. Stuart, FL 34997.
