Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

James J. Dunn, Jr.

James J. Dunn, Jr., formerly of Mamaroneck, passed away on January 7, 2010 in Whiteville, North Carolina at the age of 90. Affectionately known as Pat, he was born May 6, 1919 in Port Chester to the late Ellen (Reilling) and James J. Dunn.

Pat grew up in Mamaroneck and graduated from Rye Neck High School where he was an accomplished athlete, earning varsity letters in baseball, basketball, football and track. He excelled at baseball and as a young man played for local teams in the Mamaroneck area. He joined the United States Army where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a decorated World War II veteran, awarded the Bronze Star and many other commendations for his heroic service to his country in the European campaign. He married Margaret Buffkin on July 1, 1943. For the past 27 years they have lived in Whiteville.

In addition to his beloved wife of 66 years, he is survived by his devoted daughters, Patricia Ann Sarlo of Somers, New York and Joan Carol Dunn of Whiteville; granddaughter Jane Parker and great-granddaughter Amy Welch of Niagara Falls, sister Jean Siano of Mamaroneck, brother William Dunn of Cambridge, New York and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be remembered with great affection for his kindness, compassion, humor and sense of fair play. May he rest in peace.
