Eagerly awaited by Larchmont foodies, the first Fairway Market in Westchester opened today in Pelham Manor.
Even with a gargantuan 75,000 square feet of retail space, the renovated former Korvette’s building couldn’t accommodate the hordes of Fairway fans who lined up well before the 10 a.m. grand opening time. People lucky enough to grab a parking space and a shopping cart waited patiently and not-so-patiently in line to get inside the store. Creative queue-jumping aside, the crowd was more jovial than snarly. Once inside, cheerful mayhem ruled, with gridlock developing in the dairy and bakery areas. This reporter abandoned any thought of admiring the many imported olive oils when it became apparent that aisle resembled the Cross-Bronx Expressway at rush hour.
Go for the well-stocked fruit and vegetable aisles, varieties of fresh herbs hard to find elsewhere, a huge array of artisinal cheeses, prime meats and famous Fairway coffees. Pristine sushi and sashimi, much above the usual supermarket variety, make for a delicious post-shopping lunch. A sense of fun pervades the market and should be more apparent on a calmer day.

Love that “Fairway Market.” Highly recommend it. It is unlike other supermarkets in our region. Great prices, selection of foods, bakery, etc.
I would recommend a different traffic pattern to get there to avoid the traffic jams. Take Hutch So. to Exit 8 (Sanford Blvd.), make left at Columbus, at traffic light make left onto Fulton..go straight. This will take you into the back entrance. Store on right (across the street from BJ’s)
