Protect Yourself From Health Care Misinformation

Last week I received a well-conceived “robocall” about health care. A live person said he was interested in my opinion on a taped message from Dick Morris; he would play the tape and then get my opinion.

The tape began. Two specifics caught my attention immediately because they are wrong: The first was that with health reform, “the government was going to come between me and my doctor…” The second was, “We are on our way to socialized medicine.”

Many of you know that neither of these statements is true. Yet Morris’ tone was authoritative, and the phone call seemed “scary.”

These calls are just part of a “misinformation campaign.” Or perhaps people just don’t understand. A month ago a friend told me that the Internal Revenue Service was going to manage health reform. I told her she had mis-heard. This morning I was amazed to read that the IRS rumor continues. (Why on earth would the IRS be asked to manage health care reform?)

Become Informed: Learn What Health Reform Will Mean to You

Next Monday night Tim Foley, Health Policy Director for, will conduct a free Teach-In to explain to Americans what will change—and what won’t—with health reform.

The event is Monday, April 26 from 7-9 p.m. at the Community Unitarian Church in White Plains, 468 Rosedale Avenue. Protect yourself from calls like Dick Morris’. Come and learn what we all need to know. For more information:

Please do NOT post political messages that are wrapped as ‘concerned citizen’ op-eds.

How could you possibly post this?
