For the past fourteen years the LGBT (Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender) community has battled to push the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA H.R 2015) through Congress. ENDA would make it illegal to fire an employee based on his or her sexuality. The LGBT community was optimistic in 2006 when the Democrats took over Congress during the mid-term elections; however, the bill failed in the Senate.
It is embarrassing that a nation that champions human rights continues to discriminate against an entire demographic of its citizens. I urge Congress to pass this bill and stop sexuality based prejudice in the workplace.
