JANET LEE (PROCTOR) MACKENZIE
Janet Lee (Proctor) MacKenzie, 69, of Burlington, Massachusetts, died August 28, 2005 at
home, under Hospice care. Her family was with her as she ended her courageous battle
against metastasized lung cancer. Janet was born March 5, 1936 in Mamaroneck, New York
to Beresford and Margaret Proctor.
Janet has lived in Burlington since 1958, and later spent most winters in Vero Beach,
Florida. She worked for the advertising firm of Ogilvey, Benson and Mather in NYC upon
graduating from Centenary College in New Jersey where she sang with the special group
called the Centenary Singers. She has worked for the Middlesex Superior Court Judges,
the Probate and Family Court. She retired from the Registry of Motor Vehicles as an
Assistant to Bob McDonald, the Deputy Registrar. Her favorite job was as Communications
Director for the Middlesex County Extension Service.
Among her accomplishments included hosting interview radio talk shows at WDLW and WBOS.
Janet was a world wide traveler who enjoyed many trips with her husband and friends.
She also was a superb tennis player, golfer, equestrian and swimmer. Her hobbies included
calligraphy, painting and flower arranging. Her works of art are scattered throughout the
US and abroad. Her calligraphy was much sought after and she was a hostess ala Martha
Stewart. When she whistled in front of an audience they would be spellbound by her depth,
purity and resonance. She was cherished by her many friends, including a bridge club
group that dates back over 40 years.
All of her friends and her family are grateful for the time the Lord allowed this
beautiful lady to be among them. Surviving her is her husband of 47 years, Ronald C.
MacKenzie, daughter Jody Joyce and husband Michael of Billerica, a son Scott D.
MacKenzie of Burlington, grandson Scott D. MacKenzie of Winchester and granddaughter
Danielle McKenney of Winchester. She is survived by two sisters, Barrie Bonacci of N.
Salem, NY and Marilyn Monsanto of Mamaroneck, NY.
A Memorial Wake will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St.,
Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn Side) on Wednesday, August 31 from 4-8 p.m.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the United
Church of Christ Congregation, 6 Lexington St., Burlington. Reception immediately
following at the church hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA of Middlesex
East and Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Avenue, Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880 or the
