MARTIN F. ZAVELL

Martin F. Zavell, age 75, died unexpectedly on August 6th , 2005. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Katharine, his daughters Jeanne and Andrea, his son Michael and daughter-inlaw Christina, his brother Robert Zavell and his five grandchildren.

A lifelong resident of Larchmont, he attended The Choate School, Culver Naval School and graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army, Infantry, rising to the position of 1st Lieutenant. He was honorably discharged after serving in Korea. He had a distinguished sales career in the paper packaging industry and continued to consult after his retirement.

Marty was an extremely active member and volunteer in the Larchmont community. He served Saint John's Episcopal Church in various capacities including the vestry and, given his love of children, teaching Sunday school.

A passionate sailor, Marty was an enthusiastic and active member of the Larchmont Yacht Club where he held positions on the Board of Trustees and served as a Rear Commodore and Fleet Captain. He ran the Junior Sailing Program for many years – impacting hundreds of sailors, and enjoyed his time serving on the Race Committee. He was affectionately known to many as “Uncle Marty”. Marty was always there for others, a good friend and a solid rock for many. He will be sorely missed.

Visiting hours will be held at Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont on Tuesday, August 9th , from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Services will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Larchmont on Wednesday, August 10th , at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Support Team in 875 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck , New York or the Choate School in Wallingford , Connecticut . JOHN J.
