GUIDO RUGGIERO

Guido Ruggiero died on July 4, 2005 at age 92. Mr. Ruggiero was born in Mamaroneck on May 30, 1913 to Salvatore and Teresa (nee Iacominianni) Ruggiero. He was raised in Malvito, Italy and returned to Mamaroneck as a teenager where he met and married Serena (nee Lanza) in 1936. They were fortunate to share 68 years of life together until her death on May 5, 2005.

Guido served in WWII with the 9205th Service Command Unit obtaining rank of Corporal in 1946. Later as a painting contractor in Westchester from 1947 to 1987 Guido built a reputation for excellence and perfection. Guido loved music and played the saxophone and clarinet, and he loved to dance. He and Serena studied ballroom dancing and competed professionally from 1970 to 1976, and also gave many dancing exhibitions. Their home was full of the many trophies they won in competition, including the Victory Ball at Roseland Dance City in 1976. He also had a passion for gardening. He was often seen manicuring his lawn and tending his vegetable garden. His friends and neighbors enjoyed the tomatoes he would bring to them. He took great pride in caring for his family and home.

Although, we, his family, were blessed to have him in our lives for so long, it is still difficult to say goodbye. We will always remember his words to us “Ninety-two years is a wonderful resume“. May God bless you in your journey home Daddy. We all love you.
