MARY GARDINER PEET
Mary Gardiner Peet, of Shelter Island and Larchmont, New York, died on June
10, 2005 after a brave battle with cancer. She was 63. Born on February 20,
1942, Mimi was the daughter of the late Jacqueline
Cartier Prime, of St. Thomas, USVI and Sylvester G. Prime of Shelter Island.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, E. Chester Peet Jr., her
sister, Lorette de T. Prime, children, Mary Magarelli, Caroline Kaplan,
Amy Pace, Chester Peet III, and nine grandchildren.
Mimi will be remembered for her enormous creative talents which included
painting, needlepoint, knitting, and gardening. She was an avid and
accomplished sailor who raced competitively in her youth and enjoyed
cruising with family and friends. She was a quiet contributor of all of
her talents to many causes, large and small, and will be greatly missed
by those who knew her goodness.
A memorial mass will be held in her honor at Our Lady of The Isle Church
on Shelter Island on Saturday June 18 at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in her honor to The Shelter Island Red
Cross or The Calvary Fund, Calvary Hospital 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx,
NY 10461, where she received such compassionate care at the end of her life.
