DOROTHY WALLACE CAMPBELL

WALLACEDorothy Elizabeth Wallace Campbell, a longtime resident of Mamaroneck, died March 17, 2005 in Manassas, VA.

Born June 24, 1912 in Bronx, NY, she moved to Port Chester at an early age. She was a 1933 graduate of Skidmore College. Following graduation, she worked for the Daily Item, where she met and married H. Richmond Campbell in 1936. They moved to Mamaroneck, where Mr. Campbell became the Editor and General Manager of the Mamaroneck Daily Times.

Dorothy also worked for the Westchester Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children and during WWII, she was an airplane spotter. Her volunteer work included: service to United Hospital, serving for more than 20 years on its Board of Managers; she was active in the Twig Organization, hospital auxiliary for 40 years and also a member of the Board of Directors of the Mamaroneck Health Center.

She is survived by a son, Wallace R. Campbell of Cincinnati, OH; a daughter, Valerie C. Judkins of Gainesville, VA and seven grandchildren. Her husband of 48 years, H. Richmond Campbell, died in 1984 and a son, Bruce M. Campbell died in 1994.
