HELEN STUART
Helen Stuart, long time resident of Larchmont, surrounded
by her family died March 13 after a short illness. Helen
was born in New York City and in 1944 moved to Larchmont
with her parents, Thomas and Nellie Sullivan Quinn. She attended
the Ursuline School in New Rochelle and in 1950 was part
of the first graduating class of Marymount Manhattan College.
Helen taught for a number of years in the Port Chester Schools
and later as a substitute teacher there and in the Mamaroneck school district.
Helen is survived by her husband Thomas J. Stuart, her son,
Thomas O’Sullivan, his wife, Karen, and four grandchildren,
Dwyer, Finbar, Brendan, and Fiona. She is also survived by
her sisters, Patricia Flint Straub and Betsy Hanson, her
brother Thomas Quinn and by many loving nieces and nephews.
An active member of the community, Helen was a devout parishioner
of St. Augustine’s Church, a member of the Ladies Auxiliary,
and former member of the Church Choir. For a time she was
the leader of the local Ladies of Charity. She served as
a volunteer for the HOPE Pantry in New Rochelle for more
than 15 years and at Mother Teresa’s Soup Kitchen in
the south Bronx. She was a member of the Women’s Club
of Larchmont.
Helen was a lady with grace and kindness to all. She loved
her church, her family, especially her four grandchildren,
gardening, and her community.
Calling hours will be at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont
on Wednesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 17 from 2-4 pm and 7 to 9 pm.
Funeral mass, Friday, March 18, 2005 at St. Augustine’s
Church, Larchmont. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
