OSBOURNE GUTHRIE SMITH JR.
Osbourne Guthrie Smith Jr. 79, of Huntington Beach, CA.
died Wednesday, January 19, 2005 of heart disease. He was
born to Osbourne G. and May Littauer Smith on February
14, 1925, in New Rochelle, New York. He married Joan Marie
Manning on November 24, 1955. The couple made Larchmont,
NY their home until 1973 when Ozzie retired as a Lieutenant
in the Larchmont Fire Department and moved to Huntington
Beach, CA., where Joan continues to reside.
Ozzie was proud to have served his country in W.W.II in
the U.S. Navy. He was an avid sailor and also served as Harbor
Master at Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club in Larchmont. After
retiring to California, Ozzie enjoyed his time as a ferry
boat captain operating the Balboa Island Ferry.
Along with his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his 6
children, Kim Kramer (Ken), Kevin Smith, Thomas Smith, Craig
Smith (Jeannie), Kerry Rains & Pamela McGreevey. Ozzie
cherished his 11 grandchildren: Lindsey, Christopher & Courtney
Taylor; Cassidy, Kayla, Chris & Kyle Smith; Lauren & David
Valdez; and Marty and Caden McGreevey. Ozzie is also survived
by his sister and brother-in-law, Pam & John Viele of
Cudjo Keys, Fl.; brother-in-law, Thomas Manning of Havasu
City NV.; and numerous nieces and nephews, who were very
special in his life.
Arrangements are being taken care of by The Neptune Society,
and there will be a private Burial at Sea. His kind and gentle
spirit will live on in all who knew him, and his physical
presence will be missed deeply. A quote from “Oz”, “I
never met anyone I didn’t like, or anyone who didn’t
like me!”
