EDWARD JOSEPH PANARELLO
Edward Joseph Panarello of Larchmont, New York was
a unique individual who dedicated his life to helping other
people. He died peacefully on Thursday, December 30, 2004.
Born March 2, 1911. He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor
Panarello, his daughter Valerie Mastronardi and son-in-law
Nicholas Mastronardi. His son Edward died in infancy.
Four devoted grandchildren and their spouses; Nicholas
Mastronardi (Karen) of Colorado, Kathryn Davis (Mark) of White
Plains, Edward Mastronardi (Shawne) of South Salem and
Valerie Mastronardi of Armonk.Ten great-grandchildren: Olivia
Mastronardi, Christopher Davis, Isabelle Mastronardi, Sarah
Davis, Sophia Mastronardi, Eric Davis, Celeste Mastronardi,
Darius Mastronardi, Edward Mastronardi and Lucas Mastronardi.
Ed established an outstanding reputation for his long history of
serving in the labor movement as well as service to the general
community. Including, President of the RCIA Local 635; New York
Local 888 Director of organization, legislative and urban
affairs; Director of District Council 20 in New York and
Northern New Jersey; Vice President of the New York State Union
Label and Service Trades; Washington Director of the Active
Ballot Club (ABC) for the RCIA. Vice Chairman of the Small
Business Advisory Board and Chairman of the New York State
Advisory Committee.
He was Executive Director of the Port Maritime Council of Greater
New York where he was instrumental in developing a solution to
the decline of the merchant marine in the United States. He was
also Health Care Director of the New York State AFL-CIO;
President of New York Consumer Assembly and on Governor George
Pataki's Advisory Committee for the New York State Office for
the Aging; Director of special projects of the New York State
AFL-CIO Retiree Programs and Legislation as well as Chairman of
the Ethic Labor Coalition. This involvement earned him mention
in the 1994 Congressional Record as an Ellis Island Medal of
Honor recipient. In addition he was inducted into Who's Who in
Labor in 1976.
He served as assistant to Edward Cleary, past
President of the New York State AFL-CIO, Chair of the Executive
Committee of the Italian American Labor Council and Labor
Liaison for the “Italian Tribune.“ Awards from the Prestigious
Christopher Columbus Lifetime Achievement Award, Labor Service
Award from the Italian Hospital Society, Histadrut, United Farm
Workers, and UJA.
The family will receive friends at John J. Fox Funeral Home,
2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, Sunday, January 2 from 2-4
and 7-9 pm.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Monday, Jan. 3, 10:00 am,
Church of Sts. John and Paul, Larchmont. Interment Gate of
Heaven. In lieu of flowers contributions can to made to The
