SALLY NEWLAND
Sally Newland, a Stamford resident, died Friday,
Dec. 31 of natural
causes. She was 77.
Born Sept. 3, 1927 in New York City, she was the daughter
of the late
William and Augusta Green.
Mrs. Newland grew up in the Bronx and attended the High
School of
Music and Arts in New York City, and continued her education
at Black
Mountain College and Syracuse University.
She was a homemaker; a volunteer with Meals on Wheels,
Brandeis,
Stamford Land Trust; and a member of The Bartlett Arboretum.
She
earned the rank of Grand Life Master in bridge.
She was predeceased by her husband Herbert A. Newland. She
is survived
by a son, Eric Newland of Katonah, NY; a daughter, Ilene
Lion of
Stamford; a sister, Elaine Silberman of New Rochelle, NY;
and four
grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Temple
Sinai on
Tuesday, January 4 at 11:00 AM.
