CARROLL H. HUDDERS

Carroll H. Hudders, Jr. died of heart failure in Westchester Medical Center on November 5, 2004. Carroll, born in 1916, was 88.

Carroll was born in Allentown, PA. He grew up there and graduated from Muhlenberg College. After his first job on the local newspaper, The Call Chronicle, he moved to New York City and worked for J. Walter Thomson as an entry level advertising account executive. On December 11, 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army in which he rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. During his time in the Army he was stationed in many places throughout the United States, and met his future wife, Margaret in San Francisco in 1945. They were married upon his discharge from the Army in 1946 and moved to Boston where Carroll attended Harvard Business School.

After graduating in 1948, he resumed his career in advertising with J. Walter Thomson and in 1949 was transferred to Sao Paolo, Brazil, where he worked in J. Walter Thomson’s offices for several years. His first son, Carroll, was born there. Returning to the United States in 1952, the Hudders settled in Larchmont, NY, where his second son, Andrew, was born.

In 1959, Carroll joined the Audit Bureau of Circulations as Vice President and established the Bureau’s New York membership office. He retired from the Audit Bureau of Circulations in 1983. He was a member of the Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church, the Men’s Garden Club and the Harvard Club.

Carroll is survived by Margaret, his wife, his sons Carroll and Andrew and many special friends and relatives in Larchmont, Allentown and elsewhere. In a letter to his family, he thanked them and others for making his life so full and happy.

A memorial service for Carroll will be at 11 am Friday, November 12, 2004 at the Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church. After the service, there will be a brief reception in the church.
