ALFRED J. MOCCIA
Alfred J. Moccia passed away on September 30,
2004 at his home in Rancho Mirage, CA surrounded by his family.
He was born to John and Catharine Moccia on December 2, 1917 in
Wilmington, DE and married Evelyn Hedelt on June 25, 1941 in
Philadelphia, PA. Beloved and devoted husband, father, and
grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Evelyn; sons: Donald of
Scott’s Valley, CA and Bruce of Palm Springs, and his grandsons:
Ryan and Joey.
A lawyer by training, he started his career at Drinker,
Biddle, and Reath in Philadelphia. After serving as a pilot
in the European Theatre during World War II, he worked for
DuPont in Delaware before moving to New York to join General
Aniline and Film. After serving as chief financial officer for
American Airlines, he went to Sperry Rand (now Unisys) where he
rose to become Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chairman of
the Board before retiring in the mid 1980’s. He later became
CEO of Warner Computer Systems. During his career, he served
on the boards of many corporations, including Gencorp, Hoover
Vacuums, European American Bank, American Savings, Associated
Dry Goods, and Fuji Corp. He was a member of Winged Foot Golf
Club, the Larchmont (NY) Yacht Club, and the University Club.
Services will be held on Saturday, October 9, at the Palm
Springs Mortuary in Cathedral City, CA. In lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer
Center, 1275 York Avenue, NYC, 10021.
