Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Veronica Ryan Coleman Hughes

Veronica Ryan Coleman Hughes a long time resident of Larchmont, NY died on May 11 after a short illness. Ronnie, as she was known, was born in the Bronx 4/18/32. A graduate of St Vincent’s School of Nursing she went on to earn a Masters degree in Public Health from Hunter College and a PhD in Community Education from NYU.

She worked for many years for the NY Department of Health, in later years she was deeply involved with the International Woman’s Organization as an NGO associated with the United Nations. An avid traveler, she traveled extensively throughout the world. Visiting, studying and working in countries in including Ukraine, Russia, China, Kenya, Mexico, Egypt and all of Western Europe.

Beloved wife of John Hughes and the late George A Coleman, Loving mother of Kathy Coleman, George W Coleman, Jean Coleman Jackson, Mary Niederdorf and Meg Martin, stepmother of Joanne Pierleoni, John Hughes, Laurie Hughes Voelz and David Hughes. Devoted grandmother of Sean, Ryan, Casey, Vanessa, Bill, Kimmy, Andy, Paige, Maeve , Caitlin, Steven, Megan, Debra, Chris, Michael, Kevin, Katie, John and Grace. Loving motherin-law of the late Kevin McDuffee, Katie Coleman, Matt Jackson, Bernd Niederdorf and John Martin. Beloved daughter of the late William and Gertrude Ryan.She will be remembered by her family and friends as a deeply religious person who always tried to improve the lives of others in need.

Visiting Thursday, May 13 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc., 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY 10538. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 14 at 10 AM at St. Augustine Church in Larchmont. Cremation to follow is private. In lieu of flowers.
