Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Theresa (Jo) Gregg

Theresa (Jo) Gregg,  a long time resident of Larchmont, NY and formerly of Manor Lane, died in New Rochelle, NY on November 8, 2010. She was born on May 26, 1926 in New Rochelle. She attended St. Augustine Catholic School and Mamaroneck High School where she began a lifelong love of the sport of tennis, which would lead to many club and village championships as well as a professional career of tennis coaching. For many years, her second home was the Flint Park tennis courts.

Jo graduated from the New Rochelle Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 and became a Registered Professional Nurse that same year. In 1956, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and in 1963 she received a Master of Science in Education, both from New York University. She was a long time Chairman of the Recreation Board in Larchmont and a former candidate for the Board of Trustees for the Village of Larchmont. She retired in 1981 from the Mamaroneck Public Schools after many years of teaching.

She was the daughter of the late William Gregg and Delia Sullivan Gregg, also of Larchmont. She is preceded in death by her sister Mary Ellen Prestridge of Virginia and her brother William Gregg of New Jersey. She is survived by her nephews Burt and Bob Prestridge of Virginia, Bill Gregg of New Jersey, her niece, Maryjo Prestridge of North Carolina and a host of nieces and nephews. The family wishes to especially thank her friends Bea and Bud Walsh and the staff of United Hebrew Nursing Center in New Rochelle for caring for her the past three years.

The family will receive friends at Fox Funeral Home, Wednesday, November 10 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church Thursday, November 11 at 10 AM, followed by a private burial.
