Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS


In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Suzette S. Whittemore

Suzette S. Whittemore, a native of New York City, died at Greenwich Woods Health Care Center. She was 93 years old. Born on June 8, 1917, Mrs. Whittemore graduated from the Sacred Heart Academy in Manhattan and from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. In 1940, she met William C. Whittemore, Jr., of Larchmont, New York. They were married that December. Mr. Whittemore passed away in 1992. Said her family: “We remember our Mom as a most beautiful, sweet, spiritual, loving and supportive mother. She always made each of us feel as though we were the favored child, while at the same time fostering our life-long sense of family unity and love. We are forever grateful to have been nurtured by her.”

Mrs. Whittemore is survived by six children: Louis H. Whittemore, of Nyack, NY; William C. Whittemore, III, of Ridgefield, CT; James M. Whittemore, of Rye, NY; Suzanne W. Morris, of San Mateo, CA; Richard F. Whittemore, of Larchmont, NY; and Marianne G. Durgin, of Middletown, RI; her sister, Mimi Kantack, of Hanover, NY, seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the John J. Fox Funeral Home, Inc., 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY 10538, (914) 834-0144 on Wednesday, July 7 from 5-8 pm, Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, July 8 at 11:15 am at Sts.     Mrs. Whittemore was always a beautiful and gracious woman who welcomed all of Marianne’s chums into her home and her heart. I have many memories of wonderful days and nights in her home during my childhood. My love and condolences to all of the Whittemore family. Fondly, Marie
