Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Robert W. Tait

Robert W. Tait, a resident of Mamaroneck for more than 40 years, died Friday, April 23, 2010 at the White Plains Hospital. He was 80 years old. Robert was a mechanical engineer and, after retiring, he volunteered at the Osborn Nursing Home in Rye. His dedication and consistency earned him the honor of being the recipient of Westchester County volunteer of the year.

Robert was born on March 23, 1930 in South Shields, England, and was the son of Robert and Edith (Thompson) Tait. When he was a young boy his family moved to Nothingham, England. As a youth he attained the rank of King Scout which is equivalent to an Eagle Scout in the Boys Scouts. He immigrated to Mamaroneck, NY in 1969.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Betty, son Robert (Alese) Tait, daughters Sue (Ray) Utter, Lauren Vitro and Helen (Fred) Von Schmeling. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren and his great grandchildren. Family will visit on Wednesday, April 28 from 7 – 9 p.m. with 10AM graveside ceremony Thursday, April 29 in the St Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven, Ct. GEORGE T.
