Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Right Reverend Monsignor Joseph John Boyd

Right Reverend Monsignor Joseph John Boyd died December 20, 2009 at age 85. Born August 20, 1924 in Newark, Ohio to Johnson and Anna (nee Donovan) Boyd. A lifetime of service to the Lord, he was ordained on June 3, 1950. His first assignment was Associate Pastor at St. Paul’s RC Church in Congers, NY. In May of 1954 he became the Associate Pastor of Most Holy Trinity RC Church in Mamaroneck and later, in 1969, he was Associate Pastor of St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Katonah.

Msgr. Boyd became Pastor of St. Boniface RC Church in Wesley Hills in December of 1973. On January 11, 1985, he became Pastor of Sts John & Paul RC Church in Larchmont, where he was reappointed Pastor twice before retiring in July 2003. It was during his tenure at Sts John & Paul where he became a Monsignor on March 17, 1986.

He is predeceased by siblings Father Theophane (Trappist Monk James Boyd), Felix R. Boyd, Lucille Browne and Ann Galante. His is survived by many loving nephews and nieces and a community of faith that loved him dearly.

Monsignor Boyd will be in repose on Monday evening, December 21 from 7-9 pm at COXE & GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME, 767 East Boston Post Rd., Mamaroneck. 914-698-5968.

A Reception Of The Body ceremony will take place at Sts. John and Paul R. C. Church on Tuesday, December 22 at 2 p.m. after which Monsignor Boyd will lay in state from 2-5 & 7-9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by His Excellency Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, on Wednesday, December 23 at 10 am at Sts. John and Paul followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
