Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Mortimer Korchin

Mortimer Korchin, age 86, died April 21, 2009. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he was known to his family and friends as Morty. He was the long-time owner and President of Marshall Smoked Fish Co., Inc., of Brooklyn, New York, until the sale of the company in 1998.

Morty traveled extensively in the United States and abroad to find the best quality products for the American market. He served in the U.S. Army infantry in the European theatre during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rosalia; his brother Leo and sister-in-law Norma; his son William and daughter-in-law Sonia; his daughter Catherine and son-in-law William; and three grandchildren, Paige (age 8), William (age 5), and Dylan (age 4). A devoted family man, he had a generous spirit, a warm heart and a keen sense of humor.

The wake will be held at the John J. Fox Funeral Home (2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY) on Sunday, April 26th, from 1-5 pm and 7-9 pm, and Monday, April 27th, from 9-10 am, followed by the service.
