Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Nancy G. Barrett

Nancy G. Barrett R.N., 86, a devoted and caring woman, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the Greenwich Hospital, CT. She was born in New York City on Dec. 11, 1922, the daughter of Carl John and Lillian (Donahue) LaRocca. She lived in Larchmont, NY for 42 years. She was married to the late John J. Barrett for 51 years. She cherished trips with her beloved husband, Jack, to Bermuda, Italy, and Japan.

Nancy received formal training as a registered nurse at New Rochelle Hospital’s School of Nursing in 1941. Later in her career she became a highly respected medical office manager. She was an avid reader, patriot, and advocate for human and animal rights. She owned a unique collection of turtle figurines from around the world.

Nancy is survived by her son, John C. Barrett and her daughter-in-law Hatsue Oguro Barrett of Tilton, NH; her granddaughter, Sarah Barrett, of Brooklyn; her grandson, Noah Barrett, and his wife, Emily, of Chicago, IL; a brother, Vincent LaRocca, and his wife, Rosemary, of New York City; a sister, Elizabeth Zagat, of New York City and cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
