Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS


In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Mary Louise Farrell

Mary Louise Farrell, of Larchmont, died peacefully at Hudson Valley Hospital on May 22. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Mary Lou moved to Larchmont as a child and lived there most of her life. She graduated from Marymount College, earned a Master’s degree in psychology from Fordham University and completed course work towards her doctoral degree, also at Fordham.

Mary Lou worked as a child psychologist in the NY school system, retiring from Central Islip School District after many years of service. She devoted her career to helping children realize their full potential. This devotion and lifework was her gift to countless families in need. Mary Lou had many passions. She was a lifelong member of the Larchmont Shore Club where she enjoyed the Theatre Group. She was a voracious reader, a zealous shopper and an avid traveler, having traveled widely in Europe. She was a long-time parishioner at St Augustine’s Church in Larchmont.

Mary Lou is survived by three brothers, Edward G. Farrell of Warren , CT, James F. Farrell of Mt. Sidney, VA, and Thomas J. Farrell of Narragansett , RI. Among her great joys were her 13 nieces and nephews as well as her many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont at 10 AM on Thursday, May 28, preceded by a brief memorial service at Fox Funeral Home at 9 AM.¬†John J.
