Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Louis G. Sganga

Louis G. Sganga 92, longtime Larchmont resident died March 19, 2011 in Naples, Florida. Born in Larchmont Dec. 6, 1918 to Gabriel and Mary (Bonomo) Sganga. Louis and his loving wife Angelina moved to Naples in 1987. He served as 1st. Sergeant in the US Army during WWII.

He was a member of American Legion Post 347 and a Elk. As a communicant of Sts. John and Paul Church he served on many committees. Mr. Sganga was a painting and decorating contractor until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Naples Italian American Club. An avid fisherman and boater, Louis was a fixture on Long Island Sound and off the coast of Naples.

Louis is survived by his wife of 64 years Angelina Ann Marie (Puglia) Sganga, sisters Anna Sganga, Fanni DeSanto, his children Marianne (Philip) Clement, Gabriel (Debra), Clarine (James), Louis Jr. and Peter (Janice). Adored by his eleven grandchildren Nicholas and Marisa, Gabriel Jr. and Michael, Paul and Christopher, Patricia, Peter II, Iain, Nicole and Michelle. Predeceased by sister Pauline DiTore.

Memorial services will be held at St. Williams Church Naples, March 25 and at a later date at Sts. John and Paul, Larchmont. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Avow Hospice of Naples, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples FL.
