Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Katharine Elizabeth Forbes

Katharine Elizabeth Forbes (nee Stachnik) died at age 86 on August 13, 2010. Beloved wife of the late James C. Forbes, loving mother and devoted grandmother. She is survived by her eight children: Jacqueline (Doug Bleckner), Kathleen (Howard Renensland), Elizabeth Tracy (Peter), Carolyn (Tom Cofino), Barbara Phillips (Gary), Suzanne (Bruce Reynolds), James (Kathy) and Peggy, and 18 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her brother, Alexander Stachnik.

She was a resident of Phoenix, AZ for 4 years and previously lived in New Rochelle and Larchmont, NY. Born on June 28, 1924 in New York City, she grew up in New Rochelle and is a graduate of the Katharine Gibbs School. Kay married James C. Forbes in 1948 and raised eight children before returning to work as an Executive Assistant in the Office of the President at Memorial SloanKettering Cancer Center. She loved travel, enjoyed the arts and earned her B.A. from the College of New Rochelle in 1982.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 22, from 3 PM-7 PM at John J. Fox Funeral Home, 2080 Boston Post Road, Larchmont, NY. Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 23, at St. Augustine’s Church in Larchmont. Memorial donations may be made to the National MS Society, the College of New Rochelle, or Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix, AZ.

    Kay Forbes was a dynamic woman whose legacy will be the beautiful family she raised and who honor her by their own exemplary lives. She lives on in them, and those terrific grandchildren she loved and in whom, no doubt, she was very proud.
