Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS


In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Helene Marie Moak

Helene Marie MoakĀ (nee Solomon) died February 16, 2011 after a long illness. She was born March 23, 1930 in Manhattan to Morris F. and Lillian D. (nee Schwalbe) Solomon. She attended PS 152 and Midwood High School in Brooklyn. She moved to Larchmont in 1945 and graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 1948. She graduated from Green Mountain College in 1951.

On June 17, 1951, she married Stuart Moak, a long-time friend of her family. Their first daughter, Lillian Daryn Johnson was born on April 9, 1954 and their second daughter, Melissa Jane Moak was born December 24, 1963. Helene, “Laney”, as she was affectionately known, volunteered at the Murray Avenue School in Larchmont for several years where she processed books. She was very artistic. She made shadow boxes, Christmas cards, ceramic pieces and even some paintings.

She is survived by her two daughters, two granddaughters, Kristin Carlson Grossbach and Amy Carlson and a great grandson, Alan Liam Grossbach. Her husband, Stuart, and two older brothers, Samuel J. and Donald C. Solomon predecease her. Arrangements were conducted by Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home. www.coxeandgraziano.com
