Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Gabriel V. Fay

Gabriel V. Fay, a resident of Larchmont for 50 years, passed away peacefully following a long illness at Calvary Hospital on August 5, 2009. He was 80 years old. He was the son of Vincent and Florence Fay and grew up in the Bronx. After graduating from Fordham Prep and Fordham university he attended Fordham Graduate School majoring in History. He then decided to pursue law and graduated from New York law School. He practiced law for forty years ,specializing in real estate law. As senior partner in the firm of Schulz, Fay & Luman, he was very involved in representing various lending institutions, including Anchor Savings Bank, Dime Savings Bank and Astoria Federal Savings and Loan Association.

Gabriel had a strong sense of giving back to the community as evidenced by being a member of the Board of Trustees of the Union Hospital Association of the Bronx, a member of the Planning Board of the town of Mamaroneck, and a member of the Westchester Advisory Board of Security Title Comp. He was founder of the Larchmont Fair Housing Committee, chairman of the Larchmont Democratic Committee, ran for Mayor of Larchmont and for Town Council in the town of Mamaroneck. Volunteering his time to serve others was shown in many different ways and was an integral part of his life. He was Deputy Village Attorney for the village of Larchmont as well as being Scoutmaster of Troop 7 in Larchmont. He volunteered at Hospice of Westchester, the Portchester Nursing Home, Grey Friars, was a member of the Lions Club as well as feeding the homeless through soup kitchens and making the midnight run in Manhattan.

His faith sent his volunteering to new directions by being a member of the National Program Committee of the Christian Family Movement, a Eucharistic minister and a Minister of the Word through his parish of Sts. John and Paul Church. Morning mass was a daily ritual for years. Being an avid sailor, he was a member of Horseshoe Harbor Yacht Club and Larchmont Yacht Club, enjoying many cruises with friends and family through Long Island Sound.

He is predeceased by his devoted wife Kathleen and is survived by his loving children Patrick E. Fay, Maureen Fay Chavez and her husband Javier, Kathleen Fay Wisehart and her husband Winston, and Virginia Fay Loughman. His laughter will be missed especially by his ten grandchildren Ted, Katy, Patrick, Sean, Liam, Brandon, Fiona, Fayth, Megan and Jason.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to Calvary Hospital,1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, New York 10461(718-863-6900) Visiting hours will be held at John J. Fox Funeral Home on Tuesday August 11th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday August 12th at 10 AM at Sts.
