Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Eugene R. Ritter

Eugene R. Ritter, a longtime Larchmont resident, died Tuesday March 17 in Miami surrounded by his family. “Gene” was born January 31, 1944 to William and Barbara (nee Hupfel) Ritter in the Bronx. He married Barbara Tubello on February 27, 1965.

An entrepreneur for over forty years, Gene owned and ran several successful small businesses and moved his family to Larchmont in 1973.

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his five children Barbara, Jean, Richard, Katherine and Nelson; his daughter-in-law Jodi (nee Gottesfeld); his son-in-law John Griffo; granddaughters Brooke and Brandi Ritter; brother Martin, sister Teresa Bradshaw, sister-in-law Joan; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his brother William and sister Eleanor.

Other than spending time with his family, Gene enjoyed honing his myriad skills of carpentry, home repair, cooking, baking, gardening and his favorite hobby of deep-sea fishing.

Visitation will take place Monday, March 23 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at John J. Fox Funeral Home in Larchmont. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Tuesday, March 24 at Saints John and Paul, Larchmont. Cremation will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for the Baptist Hospital of Miami Center for Excellence in Nursing (8900 North Kendall Drive, Miami, Florida 33176). Contributions should memorialize Eugene Ritter and recognize the oncology nurses and technicians of “Five Tower.
