A most provocative question. One which perhaps others with more knowledge could better answer, but sets a fine example of the type of questioning in which some of our municipal leaders perhaps ought engage.

As to your question, perhaps a hint from Franklin, as he reportedly wrote what was intended to be his own epitaph, <i> 'The Body of B. Franklin Printer; Like the Cover of an old Book, Its Contents torn out, And stript of its Lettering and Gilding, Lies here, Food for Worms. But the Work shall not be wholly lost: For it will, as he believ'd, appear once more, In a new & more perfect Edition, Corrected and Amended By the Author.'</i>

Happy Holidays to All,

On a sidenote: Do you think Ben Franklin knew he'd be quoted so heavily in the future? Do you think he had such deep thoughts and spoke so eloquently so that his legacy would be sure to live on (not necessarily in the Larchmont Gazette but in this great nation of ours)? His wisdom was so profound....

Or did he have not a clue, yet he was just ahead of the curve and was speaking in his ordinary dialect?

Come one, come all, to the great give-a-way!

The TOM proposes to take public property, street parking spaces, and provide it exclusively to residents of one street for their own use for parking. It has said nothing about increasing the real estate assessments on such street, although the change presumably increases the property values on that street. Other TOM residents pay real estate taxes associated with their driveways and most of those residents are not even permitted to park on the street in front of their own homes at specified times. Oh, about that proposed $25 fee, has anyone figured the actual cost of administering the permits and enforcement? And, will the Town Council be doing this one street at a time. What evidence exists as to how much thought was given to this 'process'?

Did this proposed 'residential parking law' get as much thought as it seems did the metered parking permits this year for Lot #1? In a time of revenue shortfalls why is the Town unable to collect the legally mandated charges from certain people for certain parking spaces. What evidence exists as to how much thought was given to this 'process'?

As Benjamin Franklin said, <i>'All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse'.</i>
