The Second Annual Stephen Spina Softball Classic will be held July 17-18 at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck. The tournament, organized by Spina’s family and friends, was established in memory of Mr. Spina, who was murdered in 2007 Funds raised through the event will add to the already established reward through Crime Stoppers of New York.
Registration is now open for teams to participate. A co-ed division was established this year in addition to an all male division. Registration forms can be found on the event’s Facebook page.

The tournament committee also is seeking local businesses to become sponsors of the Softball Classic. Sponsorship dollars help offset the costs of operating the tournament and allow all monies raised to go directly towards the reward fund. Anyone interested in becoming a sponsor can contact Christine Foley at crfoley02@yahoo.com.
The inaugural event in 2009 helped raise $10,000. “The overwhelming support of the community was amazing,” said Christine Foley, Stephen Spina’s sister. “We couldn’t have asked for a better first event and we hope it’ll be even better this year.”
The Spina family hopes that increasing the reward will encourage someone to come forward with information about this crime. Mr. Spina was found murdered in his Richbell Road apartment on September 17, 2007. His murder remains unsolved.
