In Our Midst 2, which opens at the Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild Gallery on September 22, features photographs of four seasons of sea and sky along the coastline of Manor Park by Leslie Long.
Ms. Long is a Larchmont resident with a lifelong love of coastal areas. She has photographed Manor Park in all seasons, all kinds of weather and all different times of the day. In Our Midst 2 showcases her latest photographs of this beloved waterfront park.
Some images are painterly and lush while others are bright and arresting.
“My favorite time to photograph the park is at sunrise,” said Ms. Long. “Many mornings, I go there with my camera to see what magic the new day may bring. While the park is always beautiful, some days are simply spectacular — when the sunrise paints a vivid stripe across the sky or deep clouds part like a velvet curtain, leaving a spotlight of sunshine illuminating Umbrella Point. With these new prints, those are the moments I celebrate.”
The images in the show are iris prints on watercolor paper, a method of printing that adds great depth and a richness of color and tone.
In Our Midst 2 is at Mamaroneck Artists’ Guild Gallery from September 22 through October 10. The regular hours are noon to 5 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. During this show, the gallery will be also open on two Sundays: September 27 and October 4 from 2 – 5 pm. Ms. Long will be at the gallery on October 4.
Ms. Long’s photographs were recently featured in a photo essay in Westchester Magazine entitled, On The Waterfront, an ode to the beauty of Westchester’s public waterfront. Her photographs are in many private collections throughout the area and more can be seen at leslielongportfolio.com.
In Our Midst 2 is part of a group show featuring paintings and drawings by Ellen Asbyll, Ivy Riekstins and Phyllis Tarlow. A reception will be held on September 26 from 3 – 5 pm.
