Several student athletes from Mamaroneck High School and the Hommocks Middle School will be attending a memorial tournament in Albany on May 23rd and 24th in honor of wrestler Sol Jochnowitz-Kahn. Sol died of leukemia in the fall of 2006 shortly after graduating from high school. He was a member of the Albany host team, The New York Titan Wrestling Club.
The tournament is called “The Match Against Leukemia” and all proceeds will be given to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New York.
The Tiger wrestlers reported that they “are thrilled to help this terrific cause and expect to raise as much money as possible.”
They will be manning a fundraising table at the Harbor Fest in Mamaroneck on May 16th and 17th. “The goal is to raise at least $500 to donate to this great cause,” the team announced.
T-shirts will be sold at the Harbor Fest and donations are welcome. “We are asking for support from the Larchmont-Mamaroneck community as we look to do our part to help eradicate Leukemia and Lymphoma.”
Tiger Wrestlers Earn Second in League
” Wrestling is a team sport,” explained Anthony Vitti, the varisty head coach. “But competition is completely individual (one-on-one) which makes it a very difficult sport. ”

The Tiger wrestlers were led this year by captains Femi Wheeler (37-4 record) and Marco Iacono (33-9). The overall team record was 10-5. The Tigers were second in their league.
