Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Let the Ghoul Times Roll at Central School’s Scare Fair: Oct 25

Leaves are gently falling, pumpkins and hay stacks are bountiful, colors are popping, witches are brewing and the chill in the air means just one thing: Central School’s biggest annual  event is creeping up this weekend – Scare Fair 2009.

Central’s Parent Teacher Association is once again sponsoring Scare Fair on Sunday, October 25 from 12pm to 4pm. This holiday fair is the largest PTA fundraising event of the year and involves hundreds of parent, teacher and student volunteers. 

Scare Fair Auction

This year’s Scare Fair Auction will feature tickets to the LATE SHOW with David Letterman, LATE NIGHT with Jimmy Fallon, the award-winning musical Billy Elliot, Knicks and Islander games, a Newport weekend getaway for four, a golf foursome, private wine tasting for 12, and an American Girl Starter Set, just  to name a few.

The “Ceremonial First Pitch” at the Back-to-Back State Champion MHS Baseball game will be on auction as well.  There will also be certificates for favorite eateries, including Sherwood’s, Espana, Belizzi and Chef Antonio. The auction will be held inside Central School’s main auditorium. All proceeds will go to support Central School.


Theme Gift Baskets

There’ll be raffles for bountiful theme baskets filled with things like: a notebook computer, Wii, Bakugan Bonanza, American Girl Collection, and outdoor sporting goods. Chances to win Lunch with a Favorite Teacherand Principal for a Daywill also be raffled-off.

Boo-tiful Rides & More Spooky Things

Scare Fair 2009 will have plenty of favorite events returning this year: Haunted House, Children’s Petting Zoo, Sack Races, and Beat the Clock. New attractions this year include: Coney Island-style Photo booth, Balloon art and Spaceball Ride.

There will be numerous games, art and activity booths, and a separate Kiddyland room with activities for younger children. Ghost Bop, Pick Me Bones, Witches Pitch, Toilet Toss, Quarterback Throw, and Beanie Bash will also be ready for action.

Do the Monster Mash

Get there early and “Let The Ghoul Times Roll!” with Central’s Monster Mash Live DJ. 

Food will be provided by Central Cafe”, with donations from local favorites, Harry’s Burritos and Larchmont Tavern. Beverages and an assortment of home-baked treats will be available at the “Country Kitchen.”

“”Excitement for Central’s Scare Fair is filling the hallways,” reported Carol Houseknecht, principal of Central School. “Adults and children alike are looking forward to this year’s festivities. It is one of the best loved events for students, staff, families and alumni. Come join the fun!”

Jennifer Malherbe, Central School PTA co-president, is particularly excited about this year’s Scare Fair.  “Central’s Scare Fair 2009 promises to be yet another fabulously frightful and really delightful event for our entire community,” she said.  “Our festival is the perfect way for families to celebrate the fall season together on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone’s invited, it’s tons ‘o fun, and it’s affordable to boot. The really great thing about this event is that our parent volunteers and school faculty and staff find amazing ways to keep it fresh and original year after year. So, Watch Out! You’re sure to see lots of grinnie-grin-grins on chinnie-chin-chins… .”
