Gazette Ceases Publication: Donates Archives to LHS

In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

John Whalen is VOL Police Officer of the Year

At an award ceremony before the May 21 Memorial Day parade, Chief John G. Poleway honored some of the members of the Larchmont Police Department for outstanding accomplishments in the performance of their duties during the past year. The award recipients are as follows:

Police Officer of the Year

Class “D” Citation – Citation of Honorable Mention

Sgt Olsen, PO Whalen and PO Schnall – for their discipline, tactics, and firearms restraint exhibited while successfully subduing an armed emotionally disturbed person. 

PO Walsh and PO Schnall – for their discipline, tactics and restraint exhibited while successfully subduing and restraining a violent emotionally disturbed person.

PO Irvine and PO Paprota ‐ for their initiative, dedication, and tactfulness exhibited while successfully curtailing criminal activity perpetrated by area youths on Palmer Avenue.

PO Zapata and PO Pizzo – for their initiative and dedication to duty exhibited which resulted in the arrests of bicycle thieves who where responsible for not only bicycle thefts in the Village of Larchmont, but also our surrounding area.

Det Cristiano, Det. Daquino, and Det. Greco – for their dedication to duty and exhaustive efforts exhibited while they investigated, interviewed, and subsequently arrested a person who had committed felonious larcenies against a local resident.

Det. Cristiano – for through his own initiative and tactics used in successfully locating, arresting, and prosecuting a person who had committed a forcible robbery.

Det Cristiano and PO Formisano – for their initiative, dedication to duty, and resourcefulness which resulted in an arrest being made of a person responsible for numerous larcenies from vehicles through the utilization of DNA evidence.

Class “E” Citation – Distinguished Service

Lt. Walter Burke – for his implementation, dedication to duty, and the managing of Larchmont’s first Public Safety Day.

PO Michael Walsh and PO Timothy Brennan - for their implementation of, and managing of the Larchmont Police Department’s first S.I.M.S. training.

Class “F” Citation – Honorable Service

Sergeant Kenneth Olsen ‐ 1 year
