The birds are chirping, the crocuses are budding and Mother Nature is taking off her winter coat -which means it’s time for the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation’s annual spring fundraiser.
Denim & Diamonds
May 16, 2009, 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm Heathcote Hall at St. Thomas Church Post Road, Mamaroneck |
But, whoa there, buckaroo. If you’re thinking fancy dress and shiny shoes, you’d better change your clothes. Because this year, it’s going to be Denim and Diamonds – a mix of weekend casual and understated bling.
Sally Cantwell and Jennifer Malherbe, gala co-chairs, said they concentrated on a “less is more” event, considering the current economic situation. “To us, Denim and Diamonds says pull out your favorite Levis or taffeta skirt, slide into those cowboy boots or Jimmy Choos, put on that 10 gallon hat, fasten those 14-karat danglers, and grab yourself a sweetie.”
Even the venue, Heathcote Hall at St. Thomas Church, “just up the road apiece, had a comfy, cozy feeling,” said the co-chairs.
And once folks get all duded up, they should be geared for a whole lot of horsin’ around. No quiet sit-down dinner this time around. Instead, there will be authentic grub, like pulled pork sliders, home-fried taters, fresh greens, and pecan pie. And for folks who just can’t set still, a DJ pro will keep their feet in high gear and their boots two-steppin’ all night long.
But wait! That’s not all. There’s also Black Jack, roulette and craps – and a chance to win a treasure box holding a real treasure. Plus there will be two auctions: one silent; one live.
Folks are sure to take a likin’ to the “recession sensitive” ticket prices, too. And they can purchase the tickets online by going to mamaroneckschoolsfoundation.org, and clicking the ‘Gala’ button. “By supporting Mamaroneck Schools Foundation this way,” Ms. Cantwell stated, “we’ll be able to continue funding the kinds of classroom programs that enhance the learning experiences of all our students.”
So scratch that itchin’ for laughter and music, down-home grub and downright fun. Head on over to Heathcote Hall and spend a little time in a happy, special place that falls smack dab in the middle between denim and diamonds.
We’ll be waitin’ on ya!
