Because of the severe heat, the Town of Mamaroneck was operating a cooling center at the VFW building at 1288 Boston Post Road between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm on July 6 and July 7, according to a message from Mamaroneck Town Administrator Steve Altieri.
The heat advisory has been issued for the region by the Westchester County Health Department. Residents are advised to avoid strenuous activity and to drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation also issued an ozone advisory for July 6 due to forecasts that ozone levels would be unhealthy for individuals in “sensitive groups.”
The message from Mr. Altieri indicated the local cooling center would be open for additional days if the heat advisory continued.
In addition, hours for the Hommocks pools were extended to 8:30 pm for each evening of the advisory.
Mr. Altieri advised that any business or resident who loses power should contact Con Edison directly at 1 800-75-con ed.
His message further suggested, “Because of the severe heat take necessary precautions by limiting outdoor physical activity and remain hydrated.”
