Larchmont businesses will be able to purchase health insurance coverage for as little as $355.67 a month for their employees, thanks to a new plan provided by the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber introduced the program to its members at its April 28 meeting, held at the Globe Bar and Grill. Representatives of the providers, MVP Health Care, and the agent, Tri-County Planning Services, presented the various options that are available.
“When we surveyed Larchmont business owners to determine how the Chamber could best serve them, many said, ‘Help us get health insurance,’ ” said Jeff Rosenberg, president of the Larchmont Chamber of Commerce. “I’m pleased that we’ve already been able to make this happen in the first six months of our existence.”
MVP Health Care is offering four separate plans: two for small businesses (with as few as two eligible employees) and two for solo practitioners. MVP Health Care has a network of physicians and hospitals in the area and also is affiliated with CIGNA, which provides access to hospitals such as Sloan Kettering and the Mayo Clinic.
Michael Coughlin, chief executive officer of Larchmont’s Coughlin Group, helped the Chamber find a provider that will cover small businesses. More than 90 percent of insurance carriers will not offer plans to very small businesses, but Tri-County Planning has developed expertise in providing insurance through Chambers of Commerce in Westchester and Rockland Counties, he said, and has successfully found coverage for many of Coughlin’s clients.
Businesses must be members of the Chamber to take advantage of these plans, another advantage of being part of the Larchmont Chamber, Mr. Rosenberg said. While the Chamber has found a way to make this coverage possible, businesses will work directly with the broker to arrange for the coverage.
