Members of the Daum family are preparing for their 10th annual ‘Save The Children’ Tag Sale this May 30th, 2009. These tag sales have been held on the Daum front lawn since 1999 in an effort to raise funds for Save The Children, an international charity dedicated to changing the lives of children in the US and around the world. Monies raised at these tag sales have been donated to programs in Appalachia, Central America and Katrina Recovery Areas.
Each year well over 100 families from the Larchmont-Mamaroneck community donate items to be sold during the all day tag sale. Donors have come to anticipate the tag sale as a motivation to finish spring cleaning and pass on those fond items to eager buyers. Local children, elementary through high-school, friends and neighbors volunteer to help set up, sell and pack up the sale, all under the guidance of the Daums, who have become tag sale veterans.
“The effort of our friends and neighbors who sort through their basements and closets, pack up donations and deliver them to our home in a timely fashion is remarkable. Without these donations, there would be no tag sale” says Michelle Daum.
Last year, at the 9th annual tag sale, close to $10,000 was raised through the sale of donated items and generous contributions made by buyers and community members.
Any items not sold during the day are donated to additional charities – nothing gets thrown away. The tag sale has transformed from a simple fund-raiser into an all-community event.
Donate, volunteer and shop on May 30th 8:00 am – 8:00 pm at 54 Beach Avenue – Larchmont
