I think the new mass transit program is is a phenomenal idea for football fans — offering a great and economical way for folks to get to the Meadowlands on a Sunday afternoon, while also keeping untold drunk drivers off of area roads.
But I can’t help but be disgusted by the MTA’s lack of responsiveness to Mamaroneck Town’s pleas to properly maintain its assets in our town and village. Our pleas to have the MTA remove the graffiti on the MTA’s Weaver Street overpass and the Village of Mamaroneck’s Rockland Avenue bridge have been ignored for many months now. And we all witnessed the MTA’s years of lethargy in working with the Village of Larchmont in enabling the cleaning of the Myrtle Avenue tunnel.
Who knows how many cars will be coming from all over the county each Sunday for this program to take advantage of the “free parking” offered by Mamaroneck and Larchmont on Sundays. Our local municipalities will be forced to police and clean up after all this new traffic at an as of yet unknown cost. I believe our municipalities should better leverage their case here and force the MTA to at least properly maintain its facilities in our area before inviting all of Westchester to come here and park.
