In 2010, the Larchmont Gazette ceased publication. In 2011 the publishers donated all contents to the Larchmont Historical Society, which will continue to make the Gazette archives available online.

Board Should Air All Public Sessions On TV & Online

Portions of Town of Mamaroneck Board meetings are shown by LMC-TV.  But significant portions of public sessions, e.g. “work sessions,” are not shown, and some substantive discussions among board members are not shown. The Board indicated that this complies with NY law.

Yes, it complies with the law, but not with the full intent of the law, which is based on a presumption of openness and with providing constituents the ability to hear the discussions of its government, not simply the votes. In a time when virtually anyone can post video to the internet, why can’t our Town government and its public access video organization stream all of the Town Board meetings to our televisions and the web?

Oh, and while we’re asking questions, why can’t copies of the documents being discussed at meetings be posted on the Town’s web site so constituents can follow along with and understand the discussions?

Let’s bring government out from behind the curtain.

I agree with Brian that Town work sessions – where the majority of our polices and meaningful discussions occur – should be made available to as many constituents as possible.

The Town Board will discuss this issue at our next work session, currently scheduled for 5pm on October 7 at the Town Center. I encourage everyone to come to this meeting if they have any input or thoughts on this matter.

As we head into what is sure to be a difficult budget season, total transparency in the working of the Town and the affairs of the Town Council will be essential.
