In October 1954, Herbert A. Philbrick addressed the Community Forum
of Larchmont at Mamaroneck Junior High School. Larchmonters
knew of Philbrick because of a best-selling book titled
"I Led Three Lives" along with a popular television show
by the same name. In the show, Philbrick, played by actor
Richard Carlson, was a member of the communist party
in the Boston area, but also counterspy for th FBI.
The following are some screen shots of an episode of the series titled
"Passports." In the show, Philbrick is assigned by
his communist contacts to assist a highly placed informant
in obtaining a forged passport. Philbrick almost gets
exposed when the communists decide to search is briefcase,
which was supposed to contain a surveillance tape recorder.
However, at the last moment, the FBI agents had removed
the device because they suspected problems.
Philbrick identifies the forger, and the FBI searches his workshop
and determines the identity of the informant who is
arrested at the airport.
