OUR JUNE BRIDE LAUNCHES FORTH ON THE SEA OF MATRIMONY

by L. F. Van Zelm
Published in the Larchmonter-Times, 1922

By Ned Benton

During 1922, the Larchmonter-Times published a series of cartoons by L. F. Van Zelm. The cartoons featured local merchants, advertising their stores, and lampooning local residents. Larchmonters today may recognize the names of relatives. The fourth cartoon focuses on the marriage of Mr. and Mrs Sid Doherty. Local residents are depicted giving them a vigorous send-off.

Tom Mandeville drives the local taxi, perhaps in the direction of the train station.

Over at the Manor Garage, police officer Frank Haugelstine is shown preparing a campfire underneath the gasolne pump. Perhaps he is attempting to send them off with some fireworks.

Howard Collins and "Peanuts" Kelleher hide behind the Zvirin's Stationery Store sign.

George Erickson, Louis Miller and Arthur Greenwood throw shoes and other debris at the happy couple.
