Mission: Larchmont Friends of the Family is a not-for-profit, nonsectarian charitable organization intended to assist families with significant ties to the Larchmont community. Formed by Larchmont residents, its purpose is to mitigate the trauma faced by a family with dependent children when a parent or child dies or suffers a catastrophic illness. Where needed, financial and support services and volunteer efforts will be provided on a short term basis only and are intended merely to provide some stabilization of the family in the midst of crisis until the family members are able to thoughtfully consider and adjust to their new realities.
WHO:
Any family with dependent children, who are residents of the 10538 zip code, and those who actively participate in the Larchmont community through its educational institutions, houses of worship, public recreational programs or public work force may be eligible for assistance.
Eligible to volunteer: All volunteers are welcome and needed. Larchmont Friends of the Family has more than one hundred active volunteers.
Call Larchmont Friends of the Family at 833-2513 to be sent a volunteer form.
How has Larchmont Friends of the Family helped families?
Where needed, Larchmont Friends of the Family has underwritten the costs of :
- hiring housekeepers or health aides,
- childcare,
- tutoring,
- laundry,
- counseling.
It has also helped families "keep their heads above water" financially as they deal with new expenses necessitated by the catastrophic illness or premature death. Additionally, Larchmont Friends of the Family coordinates volunteer support for families by organizing the provision of meals, car pools, grocery shopping, errands, etc.
Although financial assistance is short-term, volunteer efforts can extend for a longer period of time, as needed.
