CANDIDATES FOR ASSEMBLY: GEORGE LATIMER

POLICE GROUPS BACK LATIMER

(October 3, 2008) The Affiliated Police Association of Westchester, representing the various P.B.A.s and related law enforcement groups across the county, have endorsed Assemblyman George Latimer (D-Westchester, 91st A.D.) in his bid for a third term representing Sound Shore communities. The screening committee, including police representatives from New Rochelle and Rye Brook, met with both Latimer, and his opponent, Rob Biagi, and queried both on their positions and past efforts on behalf of the law enforcement community.

"George has proven to be a friend to police officers, and a staunch fighter against crime," Robert Buckley, head of the Westchester County Corrections Superior Officers Association said. "We endorse him wholeheartedly."

Latimer, a Democrat, has voted many times to increase penalties for criminals, and to better protect police officers in the line of duty. He supported Civil Confinement for sex offenders, and for legislation that would provide harsher sanctions for those assaulting a police officer in
the line of duty.

"I'm honored to have the support of the men and women in blue who protect us every day" Latimer said. "They deserve our help as they do their difficult job - whether they patrol our local streets, state highways, or the halls of our prisons."

"The police endorsement is one more example. In every test of local support - endorsements by environmentalists and law enforcement officials, financial support from residents of the district, the number of people willing to sign nominating petitions or putting a sign on
their lawn, George has won," noted Fred Baron, Campaign Coordinator. "People know his hard work...they've seen the results he has delivered, and they're simply not impressed by the angry rhetoric of his opponent. They've got a solid, hard-working representative in George, fighting for them in Albany. They know it, and they're going to re-elect him."
