CANDIDATES FOR ASSEMBLY: GEORGE LATIMER

LATIMER ENDORSED BY NR LOCAL 663

(October 7, 2008) New Rochelle DPW Local 663 has endorsed Assemblyman George Latimer in his bid for re-election to the State Assembly. The Local - which has supported Republican candidates in last year's New Rochelle City Council races, and in other races for State office this year - picked Latimer, a Democrat, based on his years of hard work.

"When we lost our friend and co-worker Victor Oliveira while on the job as a sanitation worker, George Latimer met with our men, and heard our concerns and frustrations. He went to Albany and crafted a law in Victor's memory that would provide greater safety for our workers. He proved he was a friend to all of us," stated George Stumpanato, President of Local 663.

Latimer deeply appreciated the endorsement. "These men are bi-partisan in their support. I am honored to have that support in this election."

Latimer added: "You can represent, in public office, the people you serve, or the ideology you serve. When you focus on the residents themselves, homeowners and tenants, the wealthy, the middle class, the working class, the poor, the old, the young and those in the middle, you realize that partisan ideology is not a roadmap to solving problems. It becomes means to express anger, rather than to find solutions."

"We need to seek pragmatic answers that are sometimes right-of-center and sometimes left-of-center and sometimes straight down the middle. The people of the Sound Shore know that my focus is on them, not the dictates of a political party or a partisan ideology."
