CANDIDATES FOR ASSEMBLY: ROB BIAGI

BIAGI LEADS THE WAY TO FLOOR OF THE ASSEMBLY ON THE “TAX CAP EXPRESS”
-EVENT HERALDED AS GREAT SUCCESS-

Assembly candidate and his fellow Republican candidates in Westchester County went by biodiesel bus to Capitol for the emergency session to push George Latimer and his colleagues to act on tax cap, necessary spending reductions to save our economy.

(August 22, 2008) Rob Biagi, candidate for New York State Assembly in the 91st District, led the entire slate of Republican Assembly challengers on Tuesday (8/19/08) to Albany to help carry the charge of tax and spending relief on behalf of Westchester residents. Rob and his colleagues had front row seats on the floor of the Assembly during the emergency voting session.

“The Governor did a great job in bringing the Legislature together in the dog days of summer to undo what they foolishly did last term – pass a $121+ Billion budget in a failing economy,” Biagi said.

“But, with a guest seat on the floor of the Assembly for most of the day, I got to see first hand how George Latimer and Sheldon Silver let us all down by not even voting on the tax cap,” said Biagi. He added, “The Senate passed the tax cap after an honest vote on August 8, 2008, and it even had a fair amount of Democrats vote in support – but Sheldon Silver blocked the vote on a tax cap in the Assembly Tuesday and it’s an in-your-face example of how concentrated and unaccountable the power is in our state Legislature.” “If Latimer and Silver are against the tax cap, they should have voted 'no' on the merits and on the record - however they were clearly afraid to lose on the bill and face the wrath of the special interest groups that spent millions of dollars in the last few weeks on dirty TV ads and threatened withholding endorsements and campaign contributions to supporters of the tax cap,” Biagi continued.

“I went to Albany to see for myself whether George Latimer was able to stand up to Sheldon Silver and as expected, he went along with the Silver regime step by step,” said Biagi.

Rob told reporters that “I’ll fight hard for the people who pay the taxes – you and me – and if 74% of you want a tax cap, that’s telling me that my job next January is to get back on the Tax Cap Express and do what Mr. Latimer has failed to do.”
