ROB BIAGI TO GO TO ALBANY ON AUGUST 19th ON "TAX CAP EXPRESS"
TO FIGHT FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE 91st ASSEMBLY DISTRICT
Assembly candidate to travel to Capitol
for emergency session to push George Latimer to act on tax cap,
necessary spending reductions to save our economy
(July 30, 2008) While Assemblyman George Latimer and Speaker Sheldon
Silver moan and groan about having to be dragged back to Albany
for Governor Paterson's Emergency Economic Session on August 19th,
Rob Biagi, candidate for New York State Assembly in the 91st District,
today announced he will personally go to Albany on the 19thto help
fight to get a tax cap passed.
"The Governor courageously warned all members of the public
and private sector that a record budget deficit looms ahead and
that the era of spend now and pay later must be eradicated,"
said Biagi.
"But even with all the writing on the wall from every credible
economic expert, including our own eyes and ears, Sheldon Silver
had the sheer audacity to claim to the Daily Newsthat Paterson was
'overstating the problem' and that we should 'wait and see' until
October when the second quarter numbers are out," said Biagi.
"Does the Speaker really think the global, national, state
and city economies are going to reverse course on their own in three
months just in time for the elections? What fortune teller is working
for George Latimer and the Assembly Democrats?" asked Biagi.
"Silver's Assembly Democrats have their political backs against
the wall and now George Latimer will have to fall in line with tax
cap because it's the right thing to do and his special interest-controlled
super majority has lost all credibility on this issue," said
Biagi.
"Being a good Assemblyman is not just about shaking hands and
showing up at picnics, it's about making tough choices on critical
issues at the right times – and Latimer has been glad-handing
his way through a previously booming real estate market when he
should have been voting to cut spending and unfunded mandates from
the get-go," said Biagi. "We just can't afford his spending
sprees anymore."
"I'm taking the day off work on August 19thand I'm going to
Albany and I will personally call upon Latimer and the Assembly
to pass a tax cap that day and adjust spending at this most critical
time for our state and local economy," concluded Biagi.
